First Ireland is Ireland's leading china and crystal specialist. A wide selection of gifts from the largest names in china and crystal from Ireland, Britain and Europe are showcased on this site and shipped all over the world. The Yak e-commerce engine which forms the backbone of the site interfaces with a SQL database, which is updated through a web-based administration.
The first generation of our complete e-commerce solution was rolled out in 1998, and been frequently updated since that time. Through our long-term interaction First Ireland, and our involvement in the running of the site, Acidy have formulated a clear conception of the demands placed on it. This puts us in a unique position to refine the existing web-strategy and to use the opportunities the Internet presents to our client's advantage.
Our developers are currently finalising a revolutionary new site with features including:
A multi-level scalable database of over 10,000 products that is intuitive and easy to manage.
A comprehensive administration interface allowing full web-based business management. This includes stock-control, orders and returns tracking and management and delivery, as well as facilities for managing the database - creating and deleting products, departments and companies with associated pictures and descriptions.

Dynamically generated pages, with server-side caching for speed.
Built in support for customer tracking, loyalty and gift vouchers, special offers, multi-level user visibility (e.g. members only special offers and pricing) and a host of other specialist features.
A fully flexible database enabling intuitive customer-browsing to the same object by many routes.

First Ireland's customers will be able to browse a dynamically personalised site with fast access to any product through sophisticated search functions and intelligent link-structure. A customer with a particular product in mind will reach it within a couple of clicks while a browsing customer will be guided through a highly intuitive system to a selection of appropriate products. Each object will be accessible from many different locations by many different routes, meaning that the customer will never have to 'second guess' the web-designer. The look of the site will be varied within consistent design parameters - individually hand-made pages are integrated with dynamically generated elements to create an effective sales tool. Once the customer is ready to purchase they will be guided through a clear multi-step checkout process, or as an existing customer to a single page equipped with their saved details from which they can confirm their order. Having placed their order the customer is able to track and edit it through a user-friendly account management system. This system also allows the customer to add, edit and delete addresses, credit cards and preferences.

Once the order is placed, First Ireland's staff can follow a simple progression of tasks. defined in close consultation with end-users, from order-acknowledgement to payment and dispatch. This encompasses all everyday tasks including: order-acknowledgement, allocating and ordering stock as required, creating and organising multiple dispatches, taking payment and tracking packages as well as dealing with returned items and refunds. Staff with appropriate authorisation are also able to add, edit and delete items within the database, create offers affecting single products or whole ranges, make seasonal changes and choose layouts and themes for items, ranges or the whole site.
This project continues to involve a wide range of our services including: Yak-based database development, webdesign and development, web-marketing services and a long-term maintenance and development relationship with the client. We are confident that our collaboration with First Ireland will lead to a growing success.
